Description

Hot Buttered Roasted Pears with Vanilla and Black Pepper is a simple way to dress up pears and let their delicate flavor shine.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla bean paste or 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 4 ripe red pears, washed
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into 8 pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400F.
  2. Whisk together the water, honey, lemon juice, vanilla, black pepper, and salt in a small bowl.
  3. Cut the pears in half and scoop out the round part of the core (I use a melon baller or tiny scoop for this); you can cut out the stem or leave it intact if you prefer.
  4. Arrange the pears cut-side-up in an 8 by 8-inch or 9 by 9-inch baking dish. Place 1 piece of butter in the well in each pear and then drizzle the honey mixture on top.
  5. Bake until the pears are soft and fragrant, about 30 minutes. Serve.
